Splinting - Physiotherapy/occupational Therapy

Splinting: may be required to maintain optimum positioning. These are removed every four hours for 1/2 hour to allow range of movement.

Hands:

• Wrist extension (20 - 30 degrees) MCP flexion (60-70 degrees) PIP/DIP extension

Feet:

• Ankles at 90 degrees to prevent tightening of the Achilles tendon and foot plantar flexion contractures or stiffness

Any joint where immobility is required due to grafting procedures. (Splints are not removed for 5 days).
