Family and individuals involved at the scene of the burn may require an opportunity to review the circumstances of the injury and discuss their reactions in a supportive environment. At this time, coping mechanisms displayed by the patient and the family are not to be challenged, for they allow the maintenance of some stability during crisis. Everyone requires reassurance and clear guidelines in this difficult initial period.
