Escharotomies - Hospital Treatment

Escharotomies are required for circumferential deep 2nd or 3rd degree if nerve or circulatory supply is compromised due to edema. It is imperative that the escharotomy incisions are carried proximally and distally into uninvolved tissue, as well as into the subcutaneous fat, to ensure adequate decompression and to prevent or relieve compartment syndrome. These sites will usually require a skin graft to cover.
