Cleansing - Wound Care Management

Daily. Wash wounds gently with disinfectant soap, using sterile gauze. Leave blisters intact unless they are leaking, or their large size or location limits function, in which case, remove them. Use tissue forceps and scissors to remove loose non-viable tissue and crusting. It is unnecessary to scrub the wound. Shave the burned area when there is hair on the site (including scalp and perineal areas). Extend the shaved area 1 to 2 inch onto the uninvolved area to prevent the hair contaminating the wound. NEVER SHAVE EYEBROWS as this hair may not regrow.

Note: Remove tar by wiping the involved area with gauze soaked in mineral oil and/or a petroleum-based ointment. This may require several applications over a period of time.

Rinse wounds with tap water to remove traces of soap.
